Thank You WWII Veterans Honor Flight Mail Call

Betty Pieper wrote a tribute to WWII veterans who traveled to Washington, D.C. on October 17th as part of a Leatherstocking Honor Flight.
Ms. Pieper was inspired by the story of Joseph Jamro who had been an aerial gunner who after being shot down escaped from a Nazi prison. He is credited with rescuing several wounded people in Bucharest after extensive fire bombing. Apparently he was to have received a Silver Star as recorded in a written history of the 454th Bombardment Group but that never happened. His family would like to see that he receives his Silver Star before he dies. This story prompted me to think of all the unsung acts of bravery and sacrifice. Anything I knew firsthand was as a six year old on the home front where we were safe. So that is what I wrote in my poem of tribute and thanks. I attached a copy of my painting "The War is Over and I Wear My New Pinafore". The very title counterpoints dramatically to the harsh conditions our troops faced daily. while far...
